On Saturday, a company CEO said that, “Yahoo is thinking to invest on Hackers having best technologies and Ideas”.
The Senior VP for media solutions and products of Yahoo, Jeff Kinder said that, “Yahoo is open to several methods of having a venture in innovative young companies”. This was said by him in Bangalore during the sidelines of the Yahoo Hack Day.
Kinder added that, “Yahoo had not allocated any funds for this reason, or a specific model or group of criteria for such funds”.
He added, “For Yahoo, the Open Hack Days and Hacker seems to be good informative sources of creative technologies and ideas. Now a micro blogging site Meme has been changed from an internal product of Yahoo’s Idea into a Product on platform of Yahoo after the Open Hack Day held on the late 2008 in Brazil”.
When the Meme was released to the hackers during the Open Hack Day, they built several tools to get more benefit out of Meme. Meme’s API is made with Yahoo Query Language (YQL). A speaker from Yahoo “In apt words, the hackers group has assisted us in developing the Meme to what it is at present. All credits goes to Open Hack Day”.
Several people from countries like Philippines, Taiwan, India, Brazil, Indonesia and Mexico are now members of Meme.
Kinder said, “On May, Yahoo acquired a mobile location based Social Networking website of Indonesai called as Koprol, was also made better by the Hackers group in Yahoo Hack Day conducted last year in Indonesia.
Hack Days commenced as an internal event for Yahoo employees and then was stretched to several places like Brazil, Bangalore, London, and Taiwan.
The Yahoo speaker said that, “The event in the Bangalore was 3rd and there were 1,800 participants and about 500 were chosen to take part. The 123 hack events were also conducted and thus made it to be biggest successful Open Hack Day event conducted by Yahoo”.
The Open Hack Days were used by Yahoo to get feedbacks from the participants on the new Technologies and APIs, like YQL and Yahoo Application Platform (YAP). He added, “These Open Hack Days event gives us new ideas and technologies, which contributes to develop our knowledge within our company”.
