On Wednesday, Amazon.com has released low-priced, wireless (Wi-Fi) e-reader referred as Kindle for a price of 139$. Amazon is sure that their e-reader will become the most selling device, even during Apple’s iPad presence.
Amazon, the World’s giant online vendor and top E-reader seller has recently showcased the Kindle third generation e-reader, which is 15 % lighter and 21 % smaller compared to its predecessor, yet the price is 189$.
Amazon is not ready to reveal the Kindle’s sales details, but last week they said that there is a three times increase in sales after the cost of Kindle was reduced from 259$ and stated that e-books are selling more than hardcopy books. On April, Apple released iPad costing 499$ and now more than 3 million units were sold.
Jeff Bezos, the CEO during the interview held in the Amazon’s HQ in Seattle, stated that, “Because of theis price values, we are getting indication of the device becoming Mass product. This has got bigger receptions.”
Amazon is achieving success which has made it to reduce the price, though it has got many competitors entering the field. Bezos said, “We have already sold millions of previous generation of Kindle and we will again sell millions of these as well. And, if you are that much confident, you can achieve more things with the SCM (supply Chain Management) and manufacturing models in regards with reducing the cost”
Preorder of the device is now available but the products will be shipped only by August 27. The new device has got better screen contrast, but the screen size is still 6” inch only. Speed for turning pages is high and you can store 3500 e-books (previous were capable of storing only 1750).
The battery charge remains for one month. James McQuivey, the Forrester Analyst said, he was not expecting these cheaper Kindle till few days ago. He added, “Amazon is here to stay in this device business”.
Amazon is better in selling rather than production. For improving the Kindle’s sales, they are ready to give 630,000 e-books will be available for 9.99$.
